　リンダ・トムプスンの17年ぶりのソロ新作は，リチャード・トムプスンとの離婚後，強度の精神性の発声障害を克服した彼女の静かな境地を聴かせる。
　フェアポートを脱退後のリチャード＆リンダ・トムプスン名義の6作はイギリスのフォーク＆ロックの佳作として忘れることのできないものであり，また多くのカヴァー作品からもミュージシャンから高い評価を受けていることも窺える。強烈な個性の持ち主であるリチャードの最良の解釈者であったリンダがいささか時代に迎合した感のあった初ソロ作 "One Clear Moment"　から年月を経て発表した本作は，初めて彼女の本当の姿を表現したアルバムとなっている。

　演奏は小編成のアコースティック・アンサンブルを基本とし，アルバム全体を支配するトーンにはアメリカン・トラディショナル風味を漂わせつつもブリティッシュ・フォークの深奥さを充分に伝える上質の作品群となっている。
　ここで彼女を支えているのは，曲作りでは息子のテディ・トムプスン，コーラスでは娘のカミラ，そして古くからの友人たち――マーティン・カーシーは娘のイライザを，フェアポートの新旧のメンバーたちはそれぞれの時代の仲間を連れて――であり，ライナーの献辞からも，リンダの人生がいかに多くの友人たちによって温かく見守られ，励まされてきたのかが伝わってくる。

　人生における様々な出来事や経験を厚く着込むのではなく，逆に脱ぎ捨て，本来の自分を正直にシンプルに表現した，微塵の虚飾もない作品であり，自身と家族と友人と，そして彼女の音楽と人柄を愛した永年のファンのために作られたプライヴェート・アルバムの趣すらある。
　コマーシャリズムと音楽産業の激しい個性の群れの真っ只中に放り込まれ，自己のバランスを失いつつも，周囲のミュージシャン達の優しい心に励まされてきた，余りに繊細な彼女の個性を今一度記録に留めようと，丁寧に作り上げられたこのアルバムには，いま静かに自己を語るリンダの凛とした姿が刻まれている。

　リンダは，1948年にロンドンのボードビリアンを父に生まれ，幼い頃から両親の好きなカントリー・ミュージックを聞きながら育った。
　6才のときに，母の生地グラスゴーに移り，18才の頃からはフォーククラブで演奏するようになる。67年にロンドン大学に入るが，フォークシンガーになる夢を追って4ヶ月で退学。クラブなどに出入りしているうちに，マーティン・カーシーやサンディ・デニーとも知り合い，フォーク・シーンと深くかかわるようになる。
　リチャード・トムプスンとの結婚，彼とのデュオでの6枚のアルバムを発表し，これらはリチャードの音楽歴の中でもひとつのピークとなった。68年に離婚の後。アンティーク・ジュエリー商のスティーヴ・ケニスと結婚。85年には初ソロ・アルバムを発表するが，商業的には失敗。89年頃から発声障害を患い，音楽界からは事実上引退していた。

　彼女の長いキャリアにして2作目のソロ・アルバムであるが，かつてのリチャードとの作品群にも増して，力強く，また深奥な声の響きに満たされている。

　蛇足ではあるが，ブルーグラス・ファンには，リチャード・グリーンの参加や，リンダの献辞にあるアンディ・スタットマンとジョン・ショールの関わりも気になるところだ。
